Geomarine win Construction Sector (GOSHA) Health and Safety Award

A variety of Guernsey businesses were recognised for their efforts to improve health and safety standards at the GOSHA (Guernsey Occupational Safety and Health Association) annual awards dinner held on the 23rd January 2014 at the Old Government House Hotel.

GOSHA chairman Andrew Mills said: “We are delighted with the number, variety and quality of this year’s entrants from large organisations to individuals, all of whom have improved safety standards.”

“Increasing numbers at GOSHA’s annual awards evening with over 110 guests reflect how year on year the Association continues to grow in stature since its inception in 2004.”

The awards and commendations were assessed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Council member and former chair of the Thames Valley Branch, Mr Roy Featherstone, and former British Safety Council auditor and IOSH chair of the Thames Valley Branch, Mr Chris Stops. The awards were presented by Guernsey’s Commerce and Employment Minister, Deputy Kevin Stewart.

Managing Director of event sponsor Insurance Corporation, Glyn Smith, said: “As insurers we are there to help when things go wrong, but of course no-one wants to have to make a claim. It is great to see the efforts that are being made to protect people from unnecessary dangers in such a variety of industries and we applaud those who are promoting better standards of health and safety in the workplace.”
