Geomarine have been employed to perform a site investigation service on reclaimed land at La Collette. The project value will be approximately £95k. It will enable the States of Jersey to get an indication of the makeup and any contamination of the site before it is redeveloped for the new scrap yard, household recycling, and aggregate recycling facilities. The works have included boreholes, trial pits, soakaways, hand dug pits, DCP testing, load testing, groundwater monitoring, sea level monitoring and CPT. The site work then is correlated with lab testing and reporting.
The CPT is a test that has rarely been undertaken in Jersey and uses a specialist system that pushes a monitor into the ground which will record various parameters. Another rare test which will be utilised is the skip test which will be used to assess settlement. In it a skip is loaded with weight and is placed on the floor. The skip is then monitored with a precise level over a month to see if any settlement occurs.
