Geomarine Jersey were contracted to construct the Minquiers sea wall in 2021, the most southerly construction site in the British Isles, a great opportunity for the team.

The sea-defence wall to the eastern side of the island was of dry stone wall construction and was failing. Geomarine were acknowledged as the preferred contractor to join the client’s team early in the process and assist in the design process.

The solution incorporates our experience in marine work and general civils. It involves predominantly precast elements stitched together and anchored/piled. The final product was precast concrete embedded with a granite facade in order to match the existing marina buildings.

Our Marine works team travelled back and forth to the island daily, working with the tides and weather to complete this job in such an isolated location. Great care was needed in the planning and execution of the works to ensure minimal environmental impact.

It was a source of pride to be recognised as the go-to professional and pragmatic engineering contractor, and showcases our design capabilities. A tangible example of world-class engineering locally.
