As part of the planned ongoing upgrade of Guernsey Electricity’s generating capacity Geomarine are closing off an 8 month contract to provide all civil engineering works for the installation of a new engine at the Northside power station. Wartsila, principle contractor and engine supplier for GE, once again engaged Geomarine as their civils sub-contractor; this continued the excellent relationship commenced in 2012 when the engine bed and original enabling works were carried out.
The more recent “3D” contract included further concrete bases and a hugely complex steel structure that had to built around the boiler and exhaust ducts as they were installed. A 12m high noise wall, which required extensive substructure works to stabilise it during high wind conditions, together with the installation of a number of internal & external steelframes completed the package.
Project Engineer Jenny Giles, ably assisted by Foremen Clive Pearce and Mark Ridley, successfully dealt with all the tight and complex programme could throw at them.
