Geomarine are at the final stages of a project in the Cavern in Jersey. The Cavern has a capacity of 25 million litres. It is used approximately 50 times per year, dealing with overflows of water and sewage during storms and potential flooding situations. It is an impressive and critical piece of infrastructure. Workers are required to spend up to four weeks a year cleaning it.
The work consists of the installation of a new cleaning strategy including changes to pumps and pipework, ensuring waste solids don’t settle, thus reducing the requirement for manual cleaning.
MD, Phil Horsley, said, “The Cavern has been in operation since 1998 and undisputedly alleviates flooding in town and potential sewage overspill to the sea. Geomarine are enjoying being part of the team looking at ways to make the cleaning and maintenance of the space safer and less labour intensive as well as other general improvements to what is an awe-inspiring facility.”
