Geomarine were appointed by Marina Projects on behalf of a private customer to design and construct a new small vessel launch slipway on the River Hamble in Fareham. We developed a pile support marine hardwood design for the 72m long slipway.
38 piles were installed using Grundomat bottom driven piles which was more suited to the foreshore conditions. Once the steel casings were driven in using a pneumatic hammers, the casings were filled with a high strength cement grout and reinforced to offer longevity of a marine grade concrete pile system. Transition from the Grundomat pile system to an aesthetically pleasing marine hardwood slip structure was done by installing a bespoke steel bracket system, grouted into the pile head. The bracket arrangement was designed with a galvanised finish and incorporating some sacrificial thickness in the steel parts to provide a lifetimes resistance to corrosion in the saltwater environment.
Work required careful logistical planning to work efficiently around short low tide periods and minimise time lost when the foreshore work area was flooded by the incoming tide.
